Project description
Masard

ENCOURAGE ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY AMONG THE MOST VULNERABLE.

Masard is an Indian NGO, created in 1983 based in Bangalore. It is managed by social workers and development professionals helping the most vulnerable communities, specially women and children of marginal neighborhoods and rural areas of the southern states of India (Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Maharashtra, Andhra y Goa).

Vision:

  • Improve access to a world with fewer inequalities,
  • Optimize the skills among the most vulnerable, so that they stay away from poverty, sickness or hunger and develop a harmonious relationship between mankind and nature.

Interventions:

  • To strengthen the independence of the oppressed and the most vulnerable parts of the population,
  • To promote economic self-sufficiency and social dignity through participative methods

Masard was strategically associated with development actors: Government, other NGOs, and community leaders.

Results

PROJECTS CARRIED OUT BY MASARD IN STRATEGIC ASSOCIATION WITH DEMETER FOUNDATION:

  • Microcredits granted to:
    • women from the less favored families of the marginal neighborhoods in Bangalore, to enable them to develop income-generating activities (training and accompaniment during project´s conception, which feasibility was assessed before the credit),
    • street vendors, to help them strengthen their activity (thanks to the income generated by these improvements, they not only paid back their loan, but also improved the living conditions of their family).
  • Financial support to a childcare facility in Koramangala (housing, food, care, night classes).
  • Support to childcare facilities for children of marginalized neighborhoods in Bangalore (education and food). This program allowed mothers to leave their children in the center during the day and carry out their income generating activities.
